I spend more time listening to podcasts than I do to music or audiobooks, and even more time than I spending reading actual books too!
Whether I am in the bath, washing up dishes, cooking dinner, making the bed, I’ll have *something* playing – there is always a new episode or show to enjoy. Thanks to a fellow podcast-loving colleague, I have discovered so many more fantastic podcasts this year… and here they are!
The Bright Sessions
Mind reading, time travel, empath abilities… This science-fiction podcast is about ‘atypical’ humans receiving specialist therapy for their supernatural powers.
Starting out as individual therapy sessions, a group of atypicals soon find their lives (and powers) entwined… Romance, tragedy, friendship, coming of age – this podcast has a bit of everything.
Excellent voice actors and an even more excellent script. I have many more episodes to go, but I’ve already bought myself the spin-off audiobook featuring one of the characters.
This is a bit random, even for me, but Haileywood is about actor Bruce Willis and his unusual quest to transform a sleepy town in Idaho. I’m enjoying how the series is delivered, with the suspense at times of a mystery!
The episodes are still being released, but I can’t wait to find out what bizarre things happen next.
I discovered Creative Rebels through the Ctrl Alt Delete podcast a few weeks ago, and I really enjoy the long episodes of discussion, delving deep into topics like education, business, creativity and technology.
Long episodes can sometimes lose my interest with past podcasts, but the hosts ask such interesting questions that it keeps me hooked!
One episode actually encouraged me to start a TikTok, just to explore another medium of creativity: www.tiktok.com/@curiousmeeple. You can follow me for irregularly-posted book recommendations! 😛
Books N’ Betches
This wonderful, chaotic show is one of my top favourites; when I see a new episode is out, every other show gets pushed aside while I catch up.
Hosted by three passionate bookworms, I love the banter, the honest book chat and the great book recommendations.
A Hot Dog is a Sandwich
Hosted by two personalities from the Good Mythical Kitchen YouTube, this show poses important questions to listeners, such as ‘does pineapple belong on pizza?’.
I mentioned this one back in 2020 but it is still releasing new weekly content, and it is one of our favourite bedtime shows to fall asleep to. Josh Scherer has more energy than any human I’ve ever seen, and his enthusiasm is infectious!
My Dad Wrote a Porno
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard as I do when I listen to this podcast. I’m currently on book 3 of the Belinda Blinked series, an erotic saga following an employee of the pots and pans industry.
The story is read by the son of the author, and together with his friends they giggle over his dad’s questionable writing choices and sometimes ‘dodgy’ knowledge of the human body.
I’ve never laughed so hard over a podcast – a must for any adult listener!
